Marvel Superhero Films and Timeless Lessons About Life

I have really enjoyed all the Marvel Superhero films that have been coming out over the past few years. I have noticed that in addition to the thrilling action and character development that take place in these films, they also each seem to focus on a particular one-word concept that is valuable to consider. Here are some examples:

Iron Man

Character - What do you stand for? What is your name associated with and what does your behavior say about you?

Iron Man 2

Purpose - What are you living for? What are your priorities? Would you change anything about your life if you found that your time was limited?

Captain America

Courage - Would you stand for the downtrodden when you are weak yourself? Would you be willing to lay your life down for others? Will you stand strong, even when you are afraid?

Thor

Humility - Do you see your position as a privilege or a right? Do you expect others to serve you or will you sacrifice for them?

Avengers

Unity - Are you willing to work with others as a team even when you disagree? Can you surrender your desire to do things on your own in order to achieve greater goals as a team? Are you willing to focus on the things that bond you together rather than the things that tear you and your teammates apart?

Iron Man 3

Compromise - Are you willing to hold yourself to your values as you pursue your dreams or will you sacrifice your ideals in order to achieve "success"? Will this success be of any value if you have reached it by sacrificing what is right and true? How can you prevent yourself from making such compromises?

Thor 2

Sincerity - How can you tell if someone is genuinely penitent or if they are simply saying they are in order to make things better for themselves? When you make a promise, do you mean it? Or are you just saying the words?

Captain America 2

Trust - Are you willing to expose your deepest vulnerabilities to someone? Will you risk harm in order to retain fellowship through trust? When the world seems to be full of duplicitous people, will you continue to place your trust in people rather than attempting to do things on your own? Will you place your trust in the right people?
